Uses for Hair Plugs

January 4th, 2010

Hair transplants are often called hair plugs. A strand of hair and the follicle is removed from near the base of the neck and transplanted to the top of the head. The hair itself will usually fall out of the transplanted follicle but the follicle will graft itself to the new location and a new hair will eventually grow from the transplant.

This is thought to be the most common hair restoration technique but it does not work for everyone. There are different causes for hair loss. Hair transplantation works for typical male pattern baldness. This is a genetic disorder that affects the hair follicles. Other causes of hair loss will not be affected by hair transplants and eventually the transplants will stop growing hair too.
